08 Dec Darius Butler a worthy choice for Colts Man of Year
The longest-tenured defensive player on the Indianapolis Colts’ roster landed here in 2012, overshadowed by the much-ballyhooed arrivals of the new coach, the new quarterback, the new era.
Six seasons later Darius Butler is still here, still quietly punching the clock day after day in the Colts’ defensive backfield, the elder statesman of the unit and one of the most respected voices on the team. He’s switched positions, seen dozens, even hundreds of players come and go, experienced the highs of a run to the conference championship game and the lows of this current debacle.
“Every day my key fob works at that door is a blessing,” Butler said.
All the while he has relentlessly poured himself into the community. He’s fed the homeless, mentored young children, volunteered his time to the city that’s become his NFL home.
